Start-Ups.Co had the pleasure of interviewing Mrs. ‘Lori Fenstermaker‘; Founder and CEO of the US (Denver, Colorado)-based start-up “Scavado”.

Scavado” is the simple talent search engine for recruiters.

Below is the full interview that we have conducted with Mrs. ‘Fenstermaker’ regarding her start-up company ”Scavado”;

1. What is it exactly that you do and what “Scavado” is all about?

Scavado is a next generation talent search engine connecting recruiters with the best talent from all over the Web. The platform scours the Internet for the best talent, looking deep into hidden talent pools to provide recruiters with the best options to reach those top candidates. Scavado does all the complicated search algorithms so recruiters can focus their energy on connecting with top talent, not learning complex search strings.

2. When has “Scavado” been founded? And what stage is “Scavado” currently at?

The first version of the app that is now Scavado was built in November of 2008 and used by our Founder and the internal recruiting team. In 2009 our clients started asking to buy it for themselves. In 2012 we rebranded to the name Scavado, enhanced the search capabilities , moved to an incubator in Denver and started scaling. We want every recruiter that still believes the best candidates are found to know about Scavado.

3. What is “Scavado”‘s business model and how does it work?

Scavado has a premium model. We offer a full access free trial for 24 hours. Following the trial prospects have the option to purchase a subscription on a monthly or annual basis. Sometimes prospects like Scavado but don’t have time and ask us to generate candidates for them. We have a team called Scavado Hire that does that. We generate revenue by selling seats of Scavado and by generating candidates for clients that don’t have the bandwidth to do their own candidate sourcing. We’ve also been approached by a number of HR Tech vendors to integrate with their tools. We haven’t inked any deals yet but are exploring those additional revenue streams.

4. How did your team meet? And who in your team does what?

Lori and Tom met through a mutual friend.

Lori and Amy met while Lori was walking home from dropping her kids off at school. Turns out Amy used to recruit for Goldman Sachs in Chicago and Lori is a recruiter originally from Michigan. Their Midwest and Recruiting ties brought them together.

Lori is considered the recruiting domain expert and is known as the Chief Talent Sourcer. She supports customers if they need some sourcing inspiration, is responsible for product direction and also works on recruiting assignments occasionally. If Scavado doesn’t work for Lori, why would it work for anyone else?

Thomas came to Scavado with a history of helping growing companies address the challenges with operations and finance as they scale. Thomas spends his time at Scavado crunching numbers and making sure we can continue to grow while constantly working to increase the value Scavado delivers.

Amy Miller came to lead the services team at Scavado Hire. Amy and the Scavado Hire team offer a unique alternative to traditional recruitment firms that come with a high price tag. At Scavado Hire, we help companies find the best talent on a project basis providing a little or alot of help when needed.

5. What, exactly, makes you different from existing options, what will make your product and/or service stand out in the marketplace? In other words what’s unique about you and what’s new about what you make?

Scavado is unique because we know the platform is not for everyone. Scavado will work best for active recruiters who want to stop spending all their time devising search strings and refocus on reaching out to the top talent. The platform is built to find hidden talent all over the web for proactive recruiters. It’s unique because it was built by recruiters, for recruiters to find the best people.

Start-Ups.Co had a very interesting and insightful interview with Mr. ‘Sean Casto’; CEO of the US (Boston)-based start-up “PreApps”.

PreApps” is an authority website that previews new and exciting mobile apps coming soon.

Below is the full interview that we have conducted with Mr. ‘Casto’ regarding his internet start-up company;

1. What is it exactly that you do and what “PreApps” is all about?

Our vision for PreApps is to forever enhance the relationship between mobile app developers and mobile app users, which will in turn create better apps. By implementing user feedback in the development process, apps have a greater chance of success, and for users a more enjoyable experience. Our collaborative process results in promoting pre-release buzz, pre-opted in user downloads, and critical developing user feedback.

For developers, they can load their app profile onto our platform for FREE and start to build up a following online. We also offer premium analytics and marketing services, for apps that want additional expsosure and insight into their customers. Developers also have the ability to recruit Beta testers for their apps. Developers get to keep the data of all of the end users that want to Beta test the app and wish to download it upon release.

For end users, you can view screenshots and descriptions of new apps as you would in the app store, but with a few more features. On PreApps, you can watch a video trailer about the app, much like you would a movie trailer. You can also rate the app, share it with your friends, and sign up to be a Beta tester (at the discretion of the developer). When your favorite apps go live on the App Store, you can even have a push message sent to your phone to remind you that the app has gone live.

Building prerelease buzz is effective and increasingly essential for success. With the help of PreApps.com, developers can take the confusion out of the process and enjoy significant benefits, as well as ensure that their app meets with the utmost in popularity and accessibility.

2. When has “PreApps” been founded? And what stage is “PreApps” currently at?

Our startup was founded in January of 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts. We have since secured Angel financing and have become fully operational. PreApps.com is live and has the ability for developers to upload their apps and for users to preview new apps coming soon. Our official launch is January 24, 2013.

3. What is “PreApps”‘s business model and how does it work?

Our business model is to acquire as many app users and developers to our platform. Our platform is free for users. For developers our platform is free, but we offer premium services such as advanced analytics, featured marketing, and value added services such as video production, press release creation, and app logo creation.

4. How did your team meet? And who in your team does what?

I used a variety of different sources to meet people. Initially, I knew some people through Northeastern. Through friends, family, and university contacts, I was able to meet some strategic business partners and advisors. Through the internet, I ended up meeting programmers throughout the world. The rest of our team I either met locally in Boston or through job postings online.

5. What, exactly, makes you different from existing options, what will make your product and/or service stand out in the marketplace? In other words what’s unique about you and what’s new about what you make?

If you want to know what movies or music albums are coming out soon, get descriptions, and watch trailers, there are plenty of sites for those, but what about apps? There really isn’t a central marketplace to preview apps that are coming soon. PreApps is the exclusive place to preview new and exciting apps coming soon for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Android, and Windows 8 & Mobile.

6. What is your growth like? And what milestones has “PreApps” achieved so far?

Our growth has been significant. We litterally had to start at zero. Since our inception, we’ve secured Angel funding, and will officially launch January 24. Recently, we have added Windows 8 and Mobile to our platform, which only featured iOS, Mac, and Android apps. We have also secured an entire community of app developers and users to sign up for our platform.

Peoplegeist: A 100% Free Social People Search Engine that Puts You in Complete Control of What Others See and Learn about You Online

http://www.peoplegeist.com

Peoplegeist is, simply put, designed to make it easier to find information about people for the purpose of forming and maintaining stronger relationships.

Facebook Twitter

We had a long and insightful chat with Mr. ‘Darian Wilson‘; Founder of the US (Washington)-based start-up “Peoplegeist”.

Peoplegeist“ is a social people search engine that allows you to present your digital self to the world and interact with those who are most interested in you by adding your links and answering questions they send you.

Below is the full interview that we have conducted with Mr. ‘Wilson’ regarding his start-up company ”Peoplegeist”;

1. What is it exactly that you do and what “Peoplegeist” is all about?

It is a commonly held belief by those in the know that the information revolution will be won by those who can design the best filters to help people find and use all the data gathering in the cloud. At the same time, people around the world are increasingly using the Internet for two main purposes – one to form and maintain relationships and two to find information. Peoplegeist is, simply put, designed to make it easier to find information about people for the purpose of forming and maintaining stronger relationships.

2. When has “Peoplegeist” been founded? And what stage is “Peoplegeist” currently at?

The Peoplegeist team first came together in July 2012 when four partners decided to hire a developer to build the site. The first version was launched in October 2012. Another programmer was brought on-board in November 2012 and the current version went online in December 2012. Funding for the site came from the initial four partners, with less than $5,000 being invested in site development to date.

3. What is “Peoplegeist”s business model and how does it work?

We are operating as a 100% always free social media site at this time and we will never charge members for our basic services. As the community grows, we will perhaps experiment with a search result advertising system similar to Google or we may decide to charge for premium services above and beyond what is currently offered on the site for free. Bottom line is we created this site in an attempt to change the way people find and communicate with each other using social media. That will always be our primary focus, and we will look at possible revenue models as the community grows and tells us what it needs, wants and is willing to pay for.

4. How did your team meet? And who in your team does what?

The four initial partners have all never met in person, but are all tied together through the founder who knows each of them in either a personal and/or professional capacity. When it came time to hire developers, we conducted a very careful vetting process using online employment and freelance services. We are truly a global team with members in the U.S., Japan, Singapore and Brazil, and we are able to conduct all of our business using online communication and collaboration tools.

5. What, exactly, makes you different from existing options, what will make your product and/or service stand out in the marketplace? In other words what’s unique about you and what’s new about what you make?

When you look closely at almost all of the most popular social media sites available today, the one thing that becomes very clear is that many of the “conversations” taking place online appear to be very one-sided. On Facebook, for example, someone will make a post. Another ten people will comment on the post. Then the next post will appear and all is forgotten and the group moves on. Let’s not even think about how someone following 30,000 people on Twitter could respond or even read all of those posts. Peoplegeist is designed to be more permanent, and uses a question-and-answer format to foster a better sense of real conversation and connection. It is also designed to be more permanent, and we hope that people will be able to go read your information on our site 10 years from now and still feel that it is relevant and useful to what they are seeking.

Mr. ‘Rick Ross’; Founder and CEO of the US (Cary, North Carolina)-based start-up “DZone”, took some time to explain to us a bit more about who’s behind his Company and what it is all about.

According to Mr. ‘Ross’; DZone produces valuable content for a network of developer-focused tech media sites and is among the most popular resources for advanced programmers and web designers worldwide.

Located in Cary, N.C., our passion for providing current trends utilizing links, blogger content, white papers, podcasts, Refcardz and cheat sheets is shared by over 650,000 members.

Though DZone was founded in 2006, the company’s startup culture has lead to the success of its newest product AnswerHub, a social Q&A platform for enterprises that combines the best features of wikis, forums, search engines and social networks.

AnswerHub is used by enterprises such as GridGain, Readify, Dyn DNS and Guru.com.

We hit the 20 employees mark this year, and expect to grow rapidly with AnswerHub.

The startup scene in N.C. is up and coming. There are lots of new tech companies choosing to be here for many of the same reasons we chose.

At the same time, it does feel the area lacks the infrastructure to support startups that you see in other hot startup areas. [Read more...]
