We had an interesting chat with Ms. “Robbie Alvarez”, CEO of the US based start-up “The Classified Post”

Below is the interview we conducted with him:

1-What is it exactly that you do and what your start-up is all about?

The Classified Post is a new online classified ad website. Users can browse ads and post free classified ads with upgrade options. All ads are displayed in a traditional newspaper format.

2- When has your startup been founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?

The Classified Post is not currently funded. We are very open to funding options and will consider all offers given. Provide us with an introduction, examples of current companies funded, any offers and terms to the email below.

3-What is your startup’s business model and how does it work?

The Classified Post profits whenever a user decides to post an ad using one of our many upgrade options. A fully upgraded ad costs only $8.00. A great deal compared to many of our competitors.

4-How did your team meet? And who in your team does what?

The Classified Post team consists of Myself as The CEO. Steve Edwards is the CTO. He handles all coding, programming, and making sure the site functions properly. I handle marketing, customer service, site testing, social media, and all legal aspects of the company.

We met through the founder of TCP Sean Krueger.

5- What, exactly, makes you different from existing options, what will make your product and/or service stand out in the marketplace? In other words what’s unique about you and what’s new about what you make?

The Classified Post stands out from almost all classified ad sites out there for many reasons. The main reason being our ad layout. All ads are displayed in a traditional newspaper format. Allowing an easier read for people browsing classified ads. We also have social site sharing built in below an ad page allowing easy sharing on personal social site accounts.

6-What is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?

In one year The Classified Post has achieved over 1 million ads on the site. We have also partnered up with various sites including Petfinder, Nextdaypets, and ziprecruiter.

Every day we gain new active users and more ads.

7- Who are your competitors? And what is your start-up’s competitive advantage over them? (Min. 150 characters)

The Classified Post’s competitors would be Craigslist, Backpage, and Classifiedads.

Our advantage is that we are new, have a different look, better pricing, and we also throw in a branding aspect with TCP shirts and gear.

8- What obstacles did you face and how did you overcome them?

The Classified Post’s biggest challenge was getting content. Through various backlink and SEO campaigns TCP is now showing up for many relevant search engine keywords. Showing up in more places brings more possible visitors to the site.

9-What are the key things about your field that outsiders don’t understand?

It’s not easy to get people to place ads. It takes time for classified ad sites to gain exposure and recognition. Many classified ad sites also partner together so your ads may end up on other sites as well.

10- Why are you going to succeed?

The Classified Post will succeed because we are something fresh for the classified ad industry. We appeal to the older generation because it reminds them of the “good ole days” reading the paper on the porch. We attract the younger generation because to them classified ads laid out in a newspaper format looks different then what they have seen growing up ex. (craigslist).

11- If your startup succeeds, what additional areas might you be able to expand into

When The Classified Post succeeds we can easily transition struggling newspaper company ads onto our site. We can create a revenue share with each company and bring in some income where it has been lacking since Craigslist emerged.

12- Why did you choose this idea and concept to build your start-up based on?

The Classified Post was created because there is a huge market for advertising. There are many new classified ad websites out there. So to stand out we needed to be drastic.

13- What have you learned so far from launching your idea?

The greatest lesson learned is that no matter how good an idea is that exposure takes time. It’s hard to convince people when they don’t know who you are.

14- Six months from now, what’s going to be your biggest problem?

Our biggest problem six months from now will probably be personnel issues. If our current growth continues on the same path we will need to hire more people to handle issues that arise.

15- What’s the benefit for the customer/user?

The benefit for our customers would be complete and easy control of their classified ads through their account page. They can edit, delete, and keep track of all their ads through it.

16-How did customers / users find out about you?

Google search has driven our influx in the past few months. We are starting to show up in the top rankings for common search terms “free classified ads”, “online classified ads”, and so on.

17. Who are your current customers / users? Who are your target customers / users?

Our current customers are your everyday people posting ads about their businesses, services, or things for sale. Our target customers would be anybody who needs things to advertise whether it be items, property, or services.

18. Where do new customers / users come from and what makes new customers/users try you?

New customers come from word of mouth and general search engine browsing. I believing people try us out because they have never heard of us before. They continue to use us because of our easy to use system.

19. What do your customers / users say about your product and/or service?

Generally most people like the look of our ad layout and that our prices are pretty good. They also like the ability to easily share their ads on their many different social media profiles.

20. How are you going to scale?

First step would be to establish our financing. We will also start thinking outside the box for how we can better ourselves. Expand our public profile by listing our achievements and our milestones. Create a positive and productive team that provides valuable input for the needs of the company. Continue to build our partner relations.

21. What’s the biggest missing feature? The one thing customers/users keep asking for?

The biggest missing feature so far was a FAQ’s page. We have implemented a FAQ’s page detailing questions that have arisen so far. This list will continue to grow as new things come up.

22. Are you going to internationalize? And if yes how are you planning to expand your start-up’s operations accordingly?

Yes, people post classified ads all over the world. We do have a strong following through our social sites from foreign countries. When the time comes we will move forward with research and legal advice to get the international pages started.

23. How big do you think you can get? Why? And how you are planning to achieve your goals?

We will get big and be one of the leading classified ad websites. We will achieve this goal by continuing to press on. It will most likely take time for everyone to get on board. But eventually there will be a tipping point and it will be all downhill from there.

24. Are you looking to hire a new workforce? And if yes, what job vacancies do you currently offer and where can potential applicants contact you at?

At this time we are not looking to hire anyone. The site for the most part runs itself. But whenever our customer base gets to an overload we will need to expand the workforce.

25. Are you looking for partnership opportunities or funding from Venture Capitals (VC) or other funding sources? Or your business is self-sustainable? And if the first option applies where can potential partners / investors contact you at?

We will gladly discuss business and are open to funding options. Interested parties should send an email Robert@TheClassifiedPost.com

Give a brief introduction, examples of current companies funded, and an offer.

26. What advice do you have for fresh entrepreneurs?

Stay motivated and know there will be hard times. The ups and downs will be a constant reminder to never give up. There is always a solution to any problem you encounter.

27. Finally, do you have any other comments that you would like to add?

We are hoping to build more than just a classified ad website. We want to create a community for people that is fun, interactive, and easy to use. It will continue to evolve into whatever the community wants.
